Archaeocyathus ichnusae was named by Meneghini (1881). It is the type species of Ichnusocyathus.
It was recombined as Ajacicyathus ichnusae by McKee and Gangloff (1969); it was recombined as Ichnusocyathus ichnusae by Debrenne (1977).
