Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. F. Bannikov 1985Body rather deep, its depth exceeding head length. Length of head nearly 3 8 body length. Eyes medium size. Mouth terminal, praemaxillaria non-protrusible, supramaxillaria absent. Mandibular articulation not extending beyond vertical through anterior third of eye. Teeth small, closely spaced. Bones of gill cover without denticulations and spines. Supraoccipital ridge high. Five-six radii branchiostegi.
Vertebrae high, numbering about 30, of which 17 are caudal. In the caudal skeleton there are three epurals, two hypural plates, a free fifth hypurale, and a stegurale; the second preural vertebra has a low neural ridge. Ribs of medium length, posteriorly on parapophyses.
Three long predorsal bones. Dorsal fin uninterrupted, not forming a falcate lobe; in it are 4-5 spines and about 40 soft rays. In the anal fin, similar in shape to the dorsal, are 35-40 rays, the first ones probably spinous. Pectoral fins inserted low on the body, of moderate length. Pelvic fins very small. Caudal fin forked, quite large. Scales are smallish, cycloid.
