Derivation of name. L. semi, half; plus catillus, a small plate. With reference to the shape of the anterior one-third of the left valve

Taxonomy
Cytherella semicatillus was named by Ceolin et al. (2015). Its type specimen is LM-FCEN 3235, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 17, which is in a Danian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.
