Derivation of name. In honour of the late Dr Alwine Bertels, in recognition of her important work on Ostracoda, especially those from the Maastrichtian and Danian of the Neuquen Basin.

Taxonomy
Paracypris bertelsae was named by Ceolin et al. (2015). Its type specimen is LM-FCEN 3239, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 31, which is in a Danian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.
