Derivation of name. L. trans, across; plus limitares, boundary. With reference to the occurrence of this species on either side of the MaastrichtianDanian boundary.

Taxonomy
Cytheropteron translimitares was named by Ceolin et al. (2015). Its type specimen is LM-FCEN 3288, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 21, which is in a Danian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.
