Derivation of name. Gr. amsara, phantasia an image of the imagination. With reference the very unusual appearance of this species, particularly in the development of its dorsal rib.

Taxonomy
Orthrocosta phantasia was named by Ceolin et al. (2015). Its type specimen is LM-FCEN 3513, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 21, which is in a Danian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.

D. Ceolin et al. 2015Subtriangular species of Orthrocosta with strongly flared dorsal, ventrolateral and ventral ribs. Median rib distinct and extending across the valve surface. Eye tubercle pronounced and linked to tuberculate marginal rim, extending onto ventral surface. Anteroventral and posteroventral margins strongly dentate. Intercostal reticulation strong and eroding flanks of ribs.
