Derivation of name. Gr. eqlm erymnos, strong, fortified. With reference to the very strong ornament of reticulum and conjunctive spines and tubercles.

Taxonomy
Sthenarocythereis erymnos was named by Ceolin et al. (2015). Its type specimen is LM-FCEN 3530, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 3, which is in a Maastrichtian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.

D. Ceolin et al. 2015A strongly reticulocostate species of Sthenarocytereis with the reticulum around the margins comprising muri that are preferentially orientated to those margins. Subcentral tubercle very strongly developed with a ramifying extension dorsally. Eye tubercle strongly developed. Anterior and posterior marginal rims not strongly developed, but strongly denticulate antero- and posteroventrally. Hinge paramphidont.
