Wolburgia neocretacea was named by Bertels (1972). Its type specimen is FCEN-LM 531, a carapace (Complete caparace), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Wolburgiopsis neocretacea by Uliana and Musacchio (1978), Carignano and Varela (2011), Carignano (2012).
