Pampagyps imperator
Taxonomy
Pampagyps imperator was named by Agnolín et al. (2017). Its type specimen is MPLK-00001, a limb element (Right tarsometatarsus ), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cantera Nicolás Vignogna III, which is in a Pleistocene/Holocene terrestrial horizon in the Luján Formation of Argentina.

Agnolín et al. 2017 | Medium-sized condor diagnosable on the basis of the following combination of characters: 1) metatarsal shaft relatively stout, with subvertically oriented and subparallel medial and lateralmargins; 2) high and subtriangular-shaped intercotylar prominence; 3) notablywide and deeply excavated anterior metatarsal groove; 4) rounded and mound-liketibialis antiquus tubercle; 5) small distal vascular foramen, with poorly defined outerextensor groove; 6) trochlea IV relatively small, subquadrangular in contour whenviewed anteriorly, and with well-defined trochlear groove; 7) hypotarsus proximallylocated and subtriangular in contour when viewed posteriorly; 8) hypotarsus separated from internal proximal cotyle by a wide and deep concavity; 9) external calcaneal ridge with a well-developed posterior longitudinal groove; 10) external proximal cotyle with a deep notch on its lateral surface; and 11) well-developed andprominent posterior plantar crests. |
