Apionicon apioides

Taxonomy
Apionicon apioides was named by Schram et al. (1997). Its type specimen is PE 22464 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Area 3, Pit 11, Peabody Coal Company, which is in a Moscovian marine shale in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois. It is the type species of Apionicon.
