Menodus angustigenis was named by Cope (1886) [also said to be 1885].

It was recombined as Haplacodon angustigenis by Cope (1889); it was recombined as Titanotherium angustigenis by Osborn (1896); it was recombined as Megacerops angustigenis by Hay (1902), Osborn (1902), Lambe (1908), Osborn (1929).
