Taxonomy
Palaeolagus turgidus was named by Cope (1873).

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeolagus brachyodon by Matthew (1903); it was recombined as Megalagus turgidus by Walker (1931), Wood (1940), Green (1942), Galbreath (1953), Dawson (1958).
