Taxonomy
Microsphaeridiorhynchus was named by Sartenaer (1970). Its type is Rhynchonella litchfieldensis.

It was assigned to Trigonirhynchiidae by Bassett and Cocks (1974); to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Trigonirhynchiinae by Jin and Chatterton (1997), Williams et al. (2002).
