Cyrtocapsella was named by Haeckel (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u T Mi-m Sepkoski's reference number: 686]. It was considered unknown by Haeckel (1887).

It was assigned to Theoperidae by Haeckel (1887); to Eucyrtidiidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
