Taxonomy
Notopocorystes punctatus was named by Rathbun (1935) [originally named Notopocorystes punctatus (n. sp.) by Rathbun in 1935. Marylyreidus punctatus = Notopocorystes parvus, Rathbun 1935 n. sp. = Raninella mucronata, Rathbun 1935 n. sp.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 2 mi N of Denison, 1/2 mi E of Denton clay/Kde type locality..., which is in an Albian marine claystone in the Denton Formation of Texas. It is the type species of Marylyreidus.
It was recombined as Cretacoranina punctata by Schweitzer et al. (2010); it was recombined as Marylyreidus punctatus by van Bakel et al. (2012), Karasawa et al. (2014), Franţescu et al. (2016) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).
