Taxonomy
Portunites nodosus was named by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2000). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is RB-32, Kydikabbit Point, which is in a Priabonian submarine fan siltstone in the Hoko River Formation of Washington.

It was corrected as Portunites nodosa by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
