Cornutella obtusa was named by Ehrenberg (1844). It is extant. It is the type species of Dictyocephalus.
It was recombined as Dictyocryphalus obtusus by Loeblich and Tappan (1961); it was recombined as Dictyocephalus obtusus by Ehrenberg (1861), Suzuki (2009).
