Pagurus (Clibanaria) dubius was named by Noetling (1885). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality XVIII, Mokattam (bed AAA1), which is in a Priabonian marine shale in the Maadi Formation of Egypt.
It was recombined as Pagurus dubius by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
