Taxonomy

Procamelus fissidens was named by Cope (1876).

It was recombined as Protolabis fissidens by Matthew (1924), Galbreath (1953), Webb (1969); it was recombined as Miolabis fissidens by Frick and Taylor (1971), Cassiliano (1980), Kelly (1992), Honey et al. (1998).

Synonyms

Protolabis princetonianus was named by Sinclair (1915). Its type specimen is PU 12053, a partial skeleton (an uncrushed skull, sand-worn on the right side which lay uppermost, associated with most of the left ramus of the lower jaw, a fragment of the right ramus and ), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Princeton Loc. 1000C, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Olcott Formation of Nebraska.

It was synonymized subjectively with Protolabis fissidens by Matthew (1924), Webb (1969), Kelly (1992); it was recombined as Miolabis princetonianus by Frick and Taylor (1971), Honey et al. (1998).
