Taxonomy
Ectypodus hazeni was named by Jepsen (1940). Its type locality is Princeton Quarry, which is in a Tiffanian terrestrial horizon in the Fort Union Formation of Wyoming.

It was recombined as Neoplagiaulax hazeni by Krause (1977), Sloan (1987) and Secord (2008).
