Eutamias durangae was named by Allen (1903). It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Eutamias bulleri by Howell (1922) and Hall (1981); it was recombined as Tamias durangae by Piaggio and Spicer (2000); it was recombined as Neotamias durangae by Piaggio and Spicer (2001).
