Taxonomy
Nothrotherium texanum was named by Hay (1916).

It was synonymized subjectively with Nothrotherium shastense by Lull (1929); it was synonymized subjectively with Nothrotheriops shastensis by Paula Couto (1971), Kurten and Anderson (1980), McDonald (1985); it was recombined as Nothrotheriops texanus by McDonald (1995).
