Taxonomy
Asaphus selwynii was named by Salter and in Murchison (1859) [Asaphus Selwynii]. Its type specimen is SM A44425, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Ogygia selwynii by Salter (1859); it was recombined as Niobella selwyni by Reed (1931); it was recombined as Ogygiocaris selwynii by Whittard (1964); it was recombined as Merlinia selwynii by Fortey and Owens (1978).
