Taxonomy
Onychomys gidleyi was named by Hibbard (1941). Its type specimen is KUMVP 4670, a mandible (sin with i1, m1-m3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rexroad KU Locality 3, which is in a Blancan terrestrial horizon in the Rexroad Formation of Kansas.

C. W. Hibbard 1941A grasshopper mouse the size of Onychomys leucogaster arcticeps (Rhoads). Cusps not as high and entostylids better developed. Posterior lobe of m3, consisting of hypoconid and entoconid, larger and slightly lower than anterior cusps; more so than in recent species. Mental foramen situated farther down on the side of the ramus than in Onychomys leucogaster.
