Schmalenseeia jagoi was named by Whittington (1994) [= 1948 Schmalenseeia acutangula Westergård, p. 4, pl. 1, figs 5±6, non pl. 1, figs 2±4.
= 1972 Schmalenseeia acutangula form 2 Westergård; Jago, p. 233.]. It is the type species of Alumenella.
It was recombined as Burlingia jagoi by Ebbestad and Budd (2002); it was recombined as Alumenella jagoi by Geyer and Corbacho (2015).
