Orthograptus eberleini was named by Churkin and Carter (1970). Its type specimen is USNU 161783 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Sudburigraptus.
It was recombined as Sudburigraptus eberleini by Koren and Rickards (1996), Melchin et al. (2011).
