Epilobocerinae was named by Smalley (1964). It is extant. Its type is Epilobocera.

It was reranked as the family Epiloboceridae by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2023).

It was assigned to Pseudothelphusidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Pseudothelphusoidea by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2023).
