Taxonomy

Oodectes herpestoides was named by Wortman (1901) [genotype]. It is the type species of Oodectes.

Synonyms

Oodectes proximus was named by Matthew (1909). Its type specimen is AMNH 11495, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grizzly Buttes, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.

It was synonymized subjectively with Oodectes herpestoides by Robinson (1966), MacIntyre and Guthrie (1979) and Heinrich (1997).
Paeneprolimnocyon amissadomus was named by Guthrie (1967) [genotype]. It is the type species of Paeneprolimnocyon.

It was synonymized subjectively with Paeneprolimnocyon iudei by Van Valen (1969); it was synonymized subjectively with Oodectes herpestoides by MacIntyre and Guthrie (1979), Flynn and Galiano (1982), Gingerich and Deutsch (1989) and Gunnell (1998).
Triacodon nanus was named by Marsh (1872).

It was synonymized subjectively with Oodectes herpestoides by Thorpe (1923); it was considered a nomen dubium by Matthew (1909) and Gunnell (1998).
