Taxonomy
Palaeictops matthewi was named by Novacek (1977). Its type locality is Exposure Near Top of Buzzard Pass, which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the DeBeque Formation of Colorado.

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeictops multicuspis by Bown and Schankler (1982).
