Taxonomy
Galaxias effusus was named by Lee (2007). Its type specimen is OU 22650, a skeleton (entire, articulated fish skeleton.), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Foulden maar (I43/f8503), which is in an Aquitanian crater lake diatomite in the Foulden Hills Diatomite Formation of New Zealand.
