B. J. Mader 2008Medium-sized (length P2 to M3 approximately 128–145 mm) dolichorhinine brontothere with
no hypocone on M3, well developed suborbital protuberance, and nasals that are moderately flared distally (see Fig. 2). Within the Dolichorhininae, Mesatirhinus lacks distinctive generic autapomorphies and is distin- guished from other dolichorhinine brontotheres by its plesiomorphic morphology.
