Parahippus agrestis
Taxonomy
Anchitherium agreste was named by Leidy (1873). Its type specimen is USNM 5393, a mandible (Lower jaw fragments containing lower last premolar and first molar of the left side, also last molar from the same specimen as the former), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Mesohippus agrestis by Roger (1896) and Trouessart (1898); it was synonymized subjectively with Anchippus texanus by Matthew (1899); it was recombined as Miohippus agrestis by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Archaeohippus agreste by Sellards (1916); it was considered a nomen dubium by Macdonald (1992); it was recombined as Parahippus agrestis by Osborn (1904), Osborn (1918), Schlaikjer (1937), Stirton (1940) and MacFadden (1998).
