Taxonomy
Parallomys americanus was named by Korth (1992) [not clear why Prothero 1996d believes this is a new rank]. Its type locality is McCann Canyon Quarry, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in the Harrison Formation of Nebraska.
