Ambocoelia planoconvexa guadalupensis was named by Girty (1909). Its type specimen is USNM 118598a, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Ambocoelia guadalupensis by King (1931); it was recombined as Crurithyris guadalupensis by Coogan (1960), Cooper and Grant (1976); it was recombined as Orbicoelia guadalupensis by Chen and Shi (2006).
