Taxonomy
Semionotus bellottii was named by Rueppell (1857). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Perledo (Curioni collection), which is in a Longobardian marine limestone in the Perledo-Varenna Formation of Italy.

It was recombined as Allolepidotus bellottii by de Alessandri (1910), Lombardo (2001) and López-Arbarello et al. (2014); it was recombined as Eoeugnathus bellottii by López-Arbarello and Brocke (2024).
