Taxonomy
Cryptonymus laevis was named by Angelin (1851) [The type was a drawing, probably a recomposition of disarticulated parts. Ramsköld and Edgecombe 1994 selected Ar55082 as a neotype when the species was assigned to the genus Wallacia.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Encrinurus laevis by Lindström (1885); it was recombined as Wallacia laevis by Ramskold and Edgecombe (1994).

Edgecombe 1994Glabellar tuberculation moderately subdued, small tubercles abundant; L1 very short (sag., exsag.); S1 transverse; anterior margin of L0 nearly straight across much of width; distal half of cranidiat posterior border furrow abruptly redirected posterolaterally; genal angle rounded or bearing weak node; rhynchos relatively narrow, angular, projecting a moderate length anterior to border; rachis 38-40% of pygidial width (tr.) anteriorly; 15-16 interring furrows; sagittal tubercles very subdued; mucro greatly reduced, fused 8^2 terminate as triangular point.
