Taxonomy
Phenacodaptes sabulosus was named by Jepsen (1930) [genotype]. Its type locality is Princeton Quarry, which is in a Tiffanian terrestrial horizon in the Fort Union Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Apheliscus sabulosus by McKenna (1980).
