Buccinopsis canaliculata was named by Dall (1874). It is extant.

It was corrected as Buccinopsis canaliculatus by Kobelt (1883); it was recombined as Liomesus canaliculatus by Dall (1902); it was recombined as Liomesus ovoides canaliculatus by Grant and IV and Gale (1931).
