Vitularia aspera was named by Baird (1863). It is extant.

It was recombined as Ocinebra lurida aspera by Arnold (1903); it was recombined as Tritonalia lurida aspera by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Ocenebra lurida aspera by Addicott (1966).
