Taxonomy
Schaubeumys grangeri was named by Wood (1935) [genotype]. Its type locality is Potato Creek, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in the "Lower Rosebud" Beds Formation of South Dakota.

It was recombined as Plesiosminthus grangeri by Wilson (1960), Sutton (1972), Storer (1975), Reynolds (1991), Green (1992), Korth and Kron (2020).
