Taxonomy
Synaptomys rinkeri was named by Hibbard (1956). Its type locality is Dixon, which is in a Blancan terrestrial horizon in Kansas.
It was recombined as Synaptomys (Synaptomys) rinkeri by Eshelman (1975); it was recombined as Plioctomys rinkeri by Repenning and Grady (1988), Repenning et al. (1995), Fejfar and Repenning (1998).
