Keurbos susanae
Taxonomy
Keurbos susanae was named by Gabbott et al. (2025). Its type specimen is C1002, an exoskeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Keurbos Farm, which is in a Hirnantian marginal marine shale in the Cedarburg Formation of South Africa. It is the type species of Keurbos.

S. E. Gabbott et al. 2025 | Large euarthropod, body length reaching 43 cm. Head shield short. Homonomously segmented trunk with 46 lightly sclerotized segments; tergites and sternites in 1:1 segmental arrangement. Trunk tergites with gently curved posterior margins ornamented by parallel ridges; rounded paratergal lobes. Trunk sternites paired, medially confluent, subrectangular lobes associated with ovoid plates laterally. Sternites and ovoid plates show rugose surface texture. Two pairs of vascularized lamellae per segment situated at lateral margin. Trunk terminus contracted, without an obvious telson. |
