Strenuella linnarssoni was named by Kiær (1917) [Strenuella Linnarssoni].

It was recombined as Proampyx linnarssoni by Bergström and Ahlberg (1981); it was recombined as Ornamentaspis linnarssoni by Nielsen and Schovsbo (2011); it was recombined as Ellipsocephalus linnarssoni by Høyberget et al. (2015); it was recombined as Ellipsostrenua linnarssoni by Cederström et al. (2022).
