Derivation of name. In reference to its occurrence attached to leaves of diverse terrestrial plants, foliorum (Latn) of the leaves.

Taxonomy
Conopeum foliorum was named by Taboada et al. (2024). Its type specimen is MPEF-PI 7101-1 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LefE , which is in a Maastrichtian/Paleocene deltaic mudstone/sandstone in the Lefipán Formation of Argentina.

C. A. Taboada et al. 2024Colony unilaminar, spot- to sheet-like. Ancestrula budding a distal and two distolateral zooids. Autozooids mediumsized, elongate rectangular with extensive opesia, arranged in a brickwall-like alternation pattern between adjacent rows; gymnocyst absent; cryptocyst narrow forming a thin mural rim, with rarely preserved rounded granules; spine bases and closure plates not observed, presumably absent. Kenozooids not observed.
