Rhyssometopus sinensis was named by Peng (1987). Its type specimen is NIGP 74541, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Qiandongaspis sinensis by Yuan and Yin (1998), Peng et al. (2004).
