Taxonomy
Carduelis aurelioi was named by Rando et al. (2010). Its type specimen is DZUL 3047, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Galería de los Pájaros, Cueva del Viento, Tenerife, which is in a Pleistocene/Holocene cave siliciclastic in Spain.
It was recombined as Chloris aurelioi by Sangster (2021).
