Taxonomy
Brachymetopus caucasicus was named by Licharew (1944). Its type specimen is CNIGRmuseum 86/5217, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Nikitinskaya Ravine, outcrop 842, Malaya Laba River, which is in a Changhsingian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.
It was recombined as Brachymetopus (Acutimetopus) caucasicus by Mychko (2025).
