Volkheimerites labyrinthus

Taxonomy
Volkheimerites labyrinthus was named by Narváez et al. (2022). It is not extant. Its type locality is Barone Creek, which is in a Danian lacustrine - large siltstone/sandstone in the Salamanca Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Volkheimerites.

P. L. Narváez et al. 2022Angiosperm pollen, monad, form spheroid, shape oblate, outline circular–subcircular in polar view, semicircular to ellipsoidal in equatorial view; without defined aperture. Presumed distal face striate, muri pattern labyrinthine or dichotomous-radiate, coarse muri 1–1.8 lm wide in polar view, straight, broad and rounded. Exine semitectate, clearly stratified, up to 4.4 mm thick. Nexine up to 0.8 mm thick. Columellae 0.5–1.5 mm in diameter, irregularly spaced, 0.8–1.8 lm high sometimes decreasing in the proximal side. Tectum 1–1.8 lm high. Large opening on the presumed proximal surface defined by thinning of the exine, outline usually circular, wide, exine generally torn or absent. Exine on presumed proximal face granulate; striate sculpture restricted to the area around the equator.
