Blastochaetetes reitneri was named by Sánchez-Beristain et al. (2021). It is not extant. Its type locality is El Gorrión, which is in a Coniacian/Santonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal wackestone in the Tamasopo Formation of Mexico. It is the type species of Blastochaetetes.
