Taxonomy
Citellus meadensis was named by Hibbard (1941). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Borchers, which is in a Gelasian terrestrial siltstone in the Crooked Creek Formation of Kansas.
It was recombined as Spermophilus meadensis by Hemming (1956), Shotwell (1968), Kurten and Anderson (1980).
